I’ve actually encountered this word as I was reading the arabic original text of 1001 Nights. It made me chuckle because the other translations that we read were not able to translate the colloquial and funny aspect of the word. But it definitely made it clear to me how stories from that book were from different regions (here, I’m assuming Iraqi) whereas other stories were of Syrian or Egyptian heritage. Anyway. I’m rambling.
